Born in Washington D.C., Hugo Mendoza served as an Ammunition Technician (2311) in the U.S. Marine Corps. He is an Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm Veteran and lives in Northern Virginia with his family. Hugo holds a bachelor's degree in English and a master's degree in journalism and public affairs. In his free time, he walks, hikes, runs, and bikes the many trails found throughout the DMV.

Monday, May 27, 2024 

Hugo participated in this year's National Memorial Day Parade. Before lining up and marching down Constitution Avenue, all of the participants gathered for a group photograph in front of the United States Capitol with all 50 state flags displayed.

The National Desert Storm Memorial Association is working to build a new national monument in Washington D.C. near the Vietnam Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial to honor the many service men and women who served in support of Operation Desert Shield or Desert Storm.  The construction phase of the project starts this summer.
