A new memorial is being built on the National Mall to honor those who served in support of Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

The National Desert Storm Memorial Association, along with its many partners, has been working for several years to build the memorial. The Desert Shield and Desert Storm Memorial (its official name) is slated to open later this year.

The construction of the new monument will be finished this year, with the dedication ceremony scheduled for Saturday, October 24, 2026. For the latest information, visit the Desert Shield and Desert Storm Memorial website.

Hugo participated in this year's National Memorial Day Parade. Before lining up and marching down Constitution Avenue, all of the participants gathered for a group photograph in front of the United States Capitol with all 50 state flags displayed.

The National Desert Storm Memorial Association is working to build a new national monument in Washington D.C. near the Vietnam Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial to honor the many service men and women who served in support of Operation Desert Shield or Desert Storm. The construction phase of the project starts this summer.
